The Health Benefits of Turmeric Tea and How to Brew It

Published on :

You probably know turmeric as a spice commonly used in curry and sauces in Asian cuisine. Turmeric is often sold in powder. It is yellow, and it has a ginger-like taste. And just like ginger, turmeric is also a rhizome.

In this article, you’ll learn how the turmeric in tea can benefit your health, and how to prepare a cup of it.

The Health Benefits of Turmeric

Turmeric, when consumed regularly, can boost your immune system. It is antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. You’ll be protected from the common cold symptoms. But that does not mean you should rely on turmeric alone. Getting vaccinated will also add to your immune system.

Second, the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in turmeric protect your cells from turning cancerous. And third, if you have irritable bowel syndrome, turmeric can also help you to manage the condition.

There are other claims about turmeric being able to prevent diabetes and protect you from liver damages. But they still need further investigation. However, for your information, turmeric has been used in traditional medicines like Ayurveda and Chinese medicine. It’s been in human history for more than thousands of years.

Powdered or Organic?

turmeric powderYou can find instant turmeric powders anywhere on the Internet, especially on websites that are specialized in traditional medication. But you’d better stick with the organic one. Go to the market, buy 4 grams of dried turmeric, and grate or grind the root into a mixture. It is much fresher than the packed turmeric powder, and it is also much safer since you know exactly that it’s made of real turmeric.
